Great concept, poor execution
I was excited to see this. The icon, graphics looked beautiful and given that it was an Editor’s Choice feature, I was excited to use it.
Well, I am disappointed - in Memoir, and in Apple. It’s half baked at best. Issues, to wit:
1. You can’t copy / paste passwords to link your various source accounts (for example, Instagram). That forces me to type my strong, 24 character, randomly generated passwords (thanks, LastPass!) in character by character. Disallowing copy/paste is encouraging 1. weak password use 2. not linking accounts
2. Buggy. Crashes.
3. UX issues - at times it tries to behave like a pure menubar extra, at other times - a dock process. How did this pass Apple’s stringent app review process / HIG review??
4. UI - it looks thrown together. I hate, hate, hate when an Editor’s Choice app has a beautiful icon, and then a half-thought-out UI.
5. photos vs. status updates: I don’t want to see a status update from 2 years ago about some random thing. I want to see photos, which is all I expected. If you’re going to break that expectation, I can understand that - but please! Offer a preferences to only show photos vs. other content.
It’s a promising concept, but it’s clearly not ready for prime time. Apple should not be featuring this.
